Counselor and Educator
ABOUT ME
Amelia Bird (she/her)
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
CA License #104518 OR License #T2098
My clients feel better as they experience being seen without judgement, and learn to relate to themselves with compassion. My job as a therapist is to work alongside my clients to help them build their strengths, explore solutions to problems, try out new ways of thinking, and collaborate with them in working towards the goals they hold for themselves. Some "tools" we may use in therapy include art, mindfulness and meditation, somatic stress reduction, and teaching of communication and parenting skills. I work carefully with each of my clients to develop a plan that is meant just for them and their needs.
I was born and raised in California, and I live in Oregon with my son and partner, along with our dog and cat. I have a master's degree in counseling psychology from Saint Mary's College of California and completed a year-long training in children's mental health with the Center for the Vulnerable Child at the Children's Hospital of Oakland. I hold a state license in Marriage and Family Therapy in both California and Oregon. I hold a California credential in school counseling and served as a mental health provider and school counselor in a number of districts in the Bay Area, including all grade levels. I love to teach and was a counseling-skills trainer and adjunct faculty member in the graduate counseling department at Saint Mary's College.
SERVICES
I offer individual therapy via telehealth for adults, parents, people in caring professions, and adolescent girls (8 years and up) who are residents of California or Oregon. I also offer a limited number of in-person sessions at my office in SW Portland.
Individual Therapy for Adults
I help adults with parenting concerns, anxiety, recovery from childhood wounds, bouncing back from burnout or life transitions, and finding ways to live a joyful, mindful life. I love to work with adults who care for others: parents, caregivers, and people in caring professions like teaching, counseling, and nursing.
Individual Therapy for Girls Ages 8+
I help children and adolescents with anxiety, getting along with others, recovery from trauma and grief, and finding their place in a challenging world.
Support Groups for Educators and Counselors-in-Training
I will be offering supportive groups for educators starting in 2023. If you would like to get information about joining a group, please send me a message!
