Amelia Bird (she/her)

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

CA License #104518  OR License #T2098

After enjoying an early career in arts administration, I have been studying and working in the field of mental health for over 15 years. I hold a master's degree with honors in counseling psychology from Saint Mary's College of California and completed a year-long training in children's mental health with the Center for the Vulnerable Child at the Children's Hospital of Oakland. I am licensed in Marriage and Family Therapy in both California and Oregon. I am credentialed in school counseling in California and served as a mental health provider and school counselor in a number of districts in the Bay Area, including all grade levels. I love to teach and was a counseling-skills trainer and adjunct faculty member in the graduate counseling department at Saint Mary's College. After providing mental health services in K-12 schools for a number of years, I transitioned to working in private practice in 2018 and have been incorporating my interests in mindfulness practices, yoga, creativity, and somatic awareness into work with adults. I was born and raised in California, and I live in Oregon with my son and partner, along with our dog and cat.

Wondering what will we do in therapy?

The heart of my work is a “person-centered” approach, which means that the foundation of our work together is building a relationship where you feel heard, never judged, and deeply seen. We will work together to discover exactly what you would like to get out of therapy, and collaborate on a path that is meant just for you and your needs. You can also expect that I may integrate tools and additional modalities for supporting you along the way, including:

  • Mindfulness/meditation

  • Stress reduction techniques

  • Somatic/body-based approaches

  •  Psychoeducation on communication skills, parenting techniques, or other relevant interests

  • Expressive arts

  • Cognitive approaches to support helpful ways of thinking

My clients feel better as they experience being seen without judgement, learn to relate to themselves with compassion, explore solutions to problems, try out new ways of thinking, and find what brings them joy.
